After eight years of legal wrangling, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a settlement in their divorce.

According to Jolie’s attorney, the couple signed off on the divorce on Dec. 30, People reported.

The entertainment news website was the first outlet to report the settlement.

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” attorney James Simon told People in a statement. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago.

“Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

No other details were immediately available. Representatives for Pitt did not immediately respond to a request for comment, The New York Times reported.

Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, were married in a small chapel in France in 2014, according to the newspaper. They wed after meeting on the set of the 2005 movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

Jolie filed for dissolution of marriage on Sept. 19, 2016, People reported. The filing came days after a private plane flight that Jolie claimed Pitt was abusive to her and their six children. Pitt was not charged by authorities after investigations at the time and Jolie declined to press charges, the entertainment news website reported.

A divorce attorney for Pitt said at the time that he had accepted responsibility for some things in his past but would not accept responsibility for things he did not do, the Times reported.

The couple said in 2017 that they would handle their divorce privately, Deadline reported. In 2019, a judge declared them divorced and single, but added that the splitting of assets and child support had to be settled separately.

According to People, in January 2017 they agreed to seal sensitive records relating to their six children, five of whom are now adults: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, now 16.

The final settlement had been held up by a complicated legal dispute relating to Jolie’s stake in Château Miraval, the French winery the couple once co-owned, according to CNN.

Pitt’s lawsuit, filed in 2022, accused Jolie of violating his contractual rights when she sold her half of the company to a third party without his approval, the Times reported.

Jolie’s attorneys said in court documents that the couple had agreed in principle in 2021 that she would sell her stake in the winery to Pitt, according to the newspaper. But negotiations broke down after Pitt demanded Jolie sign a nondisclosure agreement, her attorneys said.
