Grading The Graders: How many “A” schools are in your county?

Students got their grades weeks ago, but the teachers and principals are now seeing their latest marks for the 2023-24 school year.

Taking a look at the counties closest to our radio station, St. Johns County continues to earn its reputation as the standard for public schools in the area. A total of 34 of the 41 schools receive an “A” grade in this latest release.

Over in Duval County, 31 of 139 schools got an “A”. The percentage might seem low in comparison, but when you consider 33 got a “B” and 60 got a “C” you can see the steps Duval has taken to improve their previous grades. Add that to a new superintendent who began his tenure earlier this month, and you can see the positive momentum happening here.

In Clay County there were 22 “A” schools out of 43, but the average for the entire county stayed relatively close to what it was in 2023.

Out of 14 schools in Nassau County, 12 got an “A” giving them one of the highest percentages in the state.

Other counties in our surrounding areas:

  • Alachua: 8 “A” schools out of 37
  • Baker: No “A” schools out of 5
  • Bradford: No “A” schools out of 5
  • Columbia: 3 “A” schools out of 13
  • Flagler: 3 “A” schools out of 11
  • Putnam: 3 “A” schools out of 13
  • Union: No “A” schools out of 3
