Building the best rainy day classic rock playlist

Rain and storm chances increase as Florida braces for Idalia impact this week

The weather will be wet and gray today - so no better time to make a rainy day playlist than the present!

I’m going to kick us off with my top 5 that are required to be on any rainy day set:

1. Lynyrd Skynyrd - “Tuesday’s Gone”

Skynyrd really sets the tone with what we’re trying to do here. This song is moving and sad and goes with rainy days like Oreos & Milk.

2. Led Zeppelin – “When the Levee Breaks”

Another vibe machine, Zeppelin gets it done consistently over the entire 7+ minutes of the track. Pop this bluesy rocker on when it’s pouring outside and you won’t even need the gummies today.

3. Fleetwood Mac - “Rhiannon”

While this track doesn’t have the typical emotional grit of a Mac love/breakup song, this tune slinks around the room as Stevie Nicks story-tells about the Welsh goddess named Rhiannon.

4. Rolling Stones - “Angie”

It’s hard not to love what Mick and the boys did here, especially when staring out at the gray rain clouds and water soaked work parking lot.

5. David Bowie - “Space Oddity”

I spent a large portion of my life trying to deny this song’s ability to work its way into my brain. That being said, you can almost imagine the movie scene of a sad main character looking out the passenger window of a car taking them away from the rain as credits roll...

Honorable mention goes to the following tracks in no particular order: The Doors – “Riders on the Storm”; Pink Floyd – “Wish You Were Here; Eric Clapton – “Tears in Heaven”; The Who – “Behind Blue Eyes”; Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”; The Eagles – “Desperado”; Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – “Last Dance With Mary Jane”; Guns N Roses – “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”

WHAT AM I MISSING?
