Jackson Browne has hit John McCain and the Republican National Committee with a lawsuit for copyright infringement and violation of right of publicity. The dispute is over the presidential nominee's use of "Running on Empty" in a TV ad that attacks rival candidate Barack Obama's comments promoting gas conservation. The suit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles, also claims that the commercial is misleading by implying that Browne, a lifelong Democrat, endorses the Republican senator. What others are saying
- Jackson Browne SuesHe has every right to sue, the canidates can't use songs in ads without permission. Every company that uses songs have to pay, why not political ads. Also, I agree that by using his song, it looks like he endorses the canidate, since most American's know that you need permission to use songs.
- Corrections To Comment By JimJim; Jackson Browne own the rights to "Running On Empty," which McCain's camp used without permission or paying royalties for it's use. Which is a no-no, remember Napster? As far as The New 96-9 The Eagle playing the song freely on the radio, we pay for every song to play, there are three different companies: ASCAP, BMI and Seasec which we pay our royalties too. Think of those three companies as a leasing agency.
On a side note: I'm betting Browne sued McCain more cause of differences of opinion on how the country should be ran.
Oh, and Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ, he is not a Muslim.
http://www.ucc.org/ - Get A LifeIt's a shame that Jackson Brown does'nt have a life anymore that he needs to resort to sueing over hearing his song played in part on tv when it's played freely over the radio. All this because it hurt his democratic feelings get real. I am a registered democrat but I can't vote for a man that is a muslim.
